About LiveLocalHome

A plain, practical guide to eating and living closer to home.

Our mission

Help people find the farms, markets and small food makers near them, cook from recipes made with common food allergies in mind, and read clear, sourced information about everyday healthy choices, along with other resources.

Who it is for

  • Families managing food allergies or gluten issues who want recipes made without gluten or eggs.
  • People who want local, direct-from-the-farm food and are not sure what is nearby.
  • Small farms, growers, cottage-food makers and markets that want to be found and have little or no marketing budget.

How we keep it honest

  • No made-up listings. A farm or market appears only after the vendor confirms the details. Each listing shows its source and the date we last checked it.
  • Organic means certified. We call a vendor “certified organic” only when the USDA Organic Integrity Database shows a current certificate. Anything else is shown in the vendor's own words, marked as self-described.
  • Clear allergen labels. Each recipe is labelled “made without” the ingredients it leaves out, and we never call a recipe “allergen-free”.
  • No medical advice. We describe; we do not prescribe.

Where things stand today

LiveLocalHome is an early-stage project started in October 2026 by Vaughan McDonald in Illinois. Today the site has:

  • 32,058 places in our index (Census incorporated places and census-designated places) across the 50 states and DC.
  • A page for every state, with official state agriculture links where we could confirm the page works.
  • A founding-list sign-up form for farms and makers.

It does not yet have vendor listings, published recipes or articles. Those come next, starting in the Fox Valley area of Illinois.

Nonprofit plans

LiveLocalHome is a community resource project, planned as a nonprofit. The nonprofit is not formed yet and has no tax-exempt status, so we do not ask for or accept donations. We will update this page when that changes.
